With Jazz être Sous, a new subgenre is introduced to jazz, where jazz musicians interpret the sounds of the present day. A simple rule of Jazz être Sous is that musicians may choose from the popular song repertoire from 1990 up to today.

The band introducing Jazz être Sous to the audience at Enghave Plads consists of Thomas Præstegaard (drums), Jacob Broholm (piano), and Terkel Møhl (bass). Together, they have selected a number of melodies, which they interpret in their Jazz être Sous versions.

Byrne argues that musicians had to adapt to the needs of dancers. They took existing popular songs, and when the written melody ran out, they continued by jamming over the same chord changes, using improvisation to keep the groove going....
