Palæ Bar is a 32 year old, upscale and richly decorated Danish bar with, among other items, a good collection of older and newer enamel signs and with enough soul for the whole city centre. It is frequented by people of all ages, regardless of professions and social status, who have one thing in common; they love a cozy bar with atmosphere, and they love jazz. Palæ Bar is located at Ny Adelgade 5. Ny Adelgade dates all the way back to 1600 AD and lies in the heart of Copenhagen across the street from the old Holberg Theatre, close to Kongens Nytorv, the Metro, Nyhavn, The Royal Theatre and the popular shopping street “Strøget”. Back in 1935, Adelgade 5 housed Café Thit, named after the Danish author Thit Jensen. From 1940 until 1984 it housed the old Selandia Bar. In 1984, the new owner Jannick Christensen renamed it Palæ Bar and redecorated the place. The new owner, Peter Fredholt, continues to develop the place while maintaining its spirit. Palæ Bar has a Sunday Jazz session every three weeks nearly all year round and of course participates in the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. In 1990, a 25.000 Danish Kroner “Palæ Bar Jazz Award” was founded. Since then, a committee selects a winner every year. The winner receives his/her award on the first Friday in July at the beginning of Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Among the winners are names like Bob Rockwell, Kenny Drew, Duke Jordan, Hugo Rasmussen and Bent Jædig. Visit palaebar.dk to see all earlier winners under the headline “Hall Of Fame”. Here you can also see the jazz line-up for the coming season. Palæ Bar’s opening hours are: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 11 - 01, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11- 03. Sunday 16-01. Come early, unless you like to drink standing up.
Danish “Smørrebrød” is served daily, except on Sundays, from around 11 until sold out. Smoking is allowed after lunch hours.
